Food waste and hunger

Food waste and hunger

Food waste and hunger will be managed by processing home-grown food using simple techniques to extend their shelf life, reducing spoilage, and spoilage leads to saving food loss.

Food

Anything, when used, provides support for a healthy diet. Food is usually plant or animal and contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals.

Some Important points related to food waste and hunger are as follows;

  • Food waste and hunger causes
  • Food waste and Agriculture
  • Food Environment
  • Food security
  • Individual Food waste
  • Waste or damage to food products

With the correct information, we will reduce losses and meet our needs more efficiently and save our money. Then, use those food savings for those who need them.

Food waste and hunger causes

Food waste and hunger cause related to decreased price or quality of food results from the decisions and actions of retailers, food service providers, and consumers. It is estimated that 1.3 billion tons of food are lost or wasted each year as 800 million people go hungry.

Global food waste

The global food waste in the United States, 30 percent of all food, costing the US $ 48.3 billion (€ 32.5 billion), is spent annually. It is estimated that about half the water used to produce this food will also be depleted as agriculture is the most significant human use of water.

Food currently wasted in Europe could feed 200 million people (FAO, 2013). Poor processing, improper maintenance, and no infrastructure are essential factors in food waste in Africa.

Statistics show that China is wasting 50 million tons of grain annually and one-tenth of the country's total grain exports.

To avoid losses, that number will be enough to feed 200 million people, one-sixth of the world's population.

  Reasons for Food Waste

  • Prepare a lot of food or take a lot of food from your plate
  • They forgot about food: expired food behind their fridge because they can't see it
  • Cooking for people who eat the mix
  • Homes that don't like leftovers
  • It is rare to eat together as a family
  • In terms of categories, loss of food

44% of food is still wasted on the domestic scale. The economic cost of wasting food on the domestic scale is about US $ 350 billion.

If we make a serious effort, we can save billions of dollars and reduce food waste. It will be good for both the economy and resources (water, energy, agricultural products, etc.)

Food Availability

Global food production is impressive. International farmers produce enough food to feed 1.5x the world's population. That is enough to provide a population of 10 billion people (currently, we are at 7.6 billion). Yet, despite this excess, hunger still exists.

Human Food Consumption

On average, an adult takes;

  • 372.51 g of flour
  • 74.68 g of meat
  • 70.29 g of rice
  • 177.12 g of vegetables
  • 28.31 g pulses
  • 66.39 g of fruit
  • 166.34 g milk
  • 53.60 g of fat,
  • 6.76 g of black tea
  • 73.21 g daily sugar
